But, perhaps, to simply celebrate the 12th of June as a way of remembering all of the sacrifices of Filipinos before, will inevitably alienate a nation whose mind is fed with mis-education, whose spirit is besieged by government misdeed, and whose stomach is beset with poverty and inequality. Filipinos, by and large, have always been troubled by the needs of the now, and the worries of the future. The past is considered useless; an old man with a stooped back, many would care less to visit and confer with.
And yet, the value of our Independence Day is beyond having a whole day just for history lessons. Now, more than ever, when the promise of economic growth and political stability seems to be gaining ground, has the message of this day never been as relevant to us as a nation.
After all, this day is all but symbolic. And what does it symbolize? I believe, Independence Day reminds us that we are race that can rise up to fight its captors. I believe we are nation of excellent people. I believe we are a nation of majestic people. Independence Day is about renewing a belief. A belief in our people.
Then, they fought foreign powers. Today, we fight against corruption. Then, they fought against oppression. Today, we fight against government abuse. Then, they fought to establish the republic. Today, we fight to make our republic become a tiger of its own.
Today is your day. Today is the modern Filipino’s day. Today is when the color of your skin, the shortness of your height, and the strength of your accent as you over pronounce your vowels, no longer indicate the barbarism of your lifestyle up in the mountains, or the limitations of your uneducated mind, or the culture of death that describes your past times. No. Not today. Today, we make a pledge that we are no longer a nation of the tardy, of the corrupt, of the inefficient, of the passive, of the lazy, of the idiotic, of the immature, of the destructive, of the people doomed to fail.
Ako ay world class. Ako ay top Filipino class.

This is a pretty picture. And this is such a good idea for an event that’s meant to be moving for everyone involved. :) Cool, cool! I’m sure it was also for the children whose wishes are on this balloons.
If this photo doesn’t already tug at your heartstrings, these balloons were released by Palestinian children with their wishes written on paper and tied to each.

This reminded me of the Hunger Games movie. That was one good film! I mean the elements of production, especially the direction worked really well. If you haven’t watched it yet, you should. It’s offers a very pleasant experience. :D Can’t wait to get a hold of a copy of the series. Batman and I can’t wait to read it, too. :D
